Here is a page that tells you more about the characters of Garfield. Garfield, the original comic strip originated in 1978, by a man with a great sense of humour, Jim Davis. Garfields' appearances have changed many times over the years, to what he is lookin' like today. Garfield was named after Jim's cantankerous grandfather, James Garfield Davis. There are all your favourite characters, what they are like, what they do, and what sorta things they do in the world of garfield. Check it out.
Now, lets hear about the characters themselves!
First appearance: June 19, 1978
Garfield, lets see. Garfield is one fat, lazy kitty who hates mondays, but loves his lasagne, coffee breaks and very long naps.
Garfields philosophy is that eating and sleeping are the two most important things in life, and his
motto is: 'The meek shall inherit squat.' I think the same way, too. On the scene Garfield shares the
stage with his nerdy owner, Jon Arbuckle, who which he refers to as his 'meal ticket,' and also Odie,
an absolutely witless, braindead, drooling dog, who Garfield believes was born to be a workin' dog, for
example, a doorstop or paperweight. But, wait, everyones fave cat isn't just about sass and sarcasm,
why, he also has a soft side. (Yupperz, you guessed it.) He loves his teddy, Pooky. Even though Odie barks,
and drools, there is no way Garfield could get through without him. He even manages to tolerate
his owner, because, after all, in Garfields opinion, 'Don't bite the hand who feeds you.'
Don't expect quite as much as this on the rest of the characters!
First appearance: August 8, 1978
Odie, that seemingly stupid, witless dog, who is always being kicked off the table by Garfield,
really doesn't mind at all, (no sense no feeling) because Garfield is one of his best friends. Odie
just happily spends his time walking around, drooling, burying bones, and getting in trouble for eating
Garfields food. Odie was originally Lyman's dog, but was given to Jon, who has taken him in and
looked after him. A great friend to Garfield, and a character who adds fun and stupidity to this
funny cartoon.
First appearance: June 19, 1978
Jon Arbuckle, a nerdy guy
who spends his times reading books, watching movies, trying to get a date with Garfields vet, Liz,
or doing, well, nothing! Jon has no friends, and is always seemed to be embarrased by Garfield, in
some way shape orf form. He is constantly getting Garfield out of the fridge, the one that has food
that is years old, mouldy, and, starting to move. (ewwwww) Jon really doesn't get out much, and really
doesn't have much of a life.
First appearance: October 23, 1978
Pooky's the sorta teddy bear anyone, and everyone could love, but, Pooky is a one cat teddy bear!
Pooky is Garfields favourite friend, and possesion. Garfield likes Pooky more Odie or Jon. Pooky hates
people adding 'wooky' to the end of his name, and has an evil brother wooky, who has done time in
the joint!
First appearance: December 17, 1980
Arlene is Garfields girlfriend (on and off) and really likes Garfield, but hates how he makes fun of her,
and his love for gluttony. She has a gap between her teeth, which Garfield always makes fun of,
and Arlene doesn't like, so she tells Garfield where to go, or smacks him!
First appearance: September 3, 1979
Nermal is that cute ball of fluff, that Garfield absolutely loathes! He is one of the cutest cats in the world, and
is always making fun of how old and fat and 'un-cute' Garfield is. He is always being sent to Abu
Dhabi by Garfield, but always gets back to annoy Garfield!
First appearance: February 13, 1980
Jon's mom is a loving, hardworking farm wife who's very proud of her husband
and sons. She's a great cook who thinks highly of quality and quantity. In her point of view, the
two most important food groups are potatoes and pies.
First appearance: February 13, 1980
As a farmer, Jon's dad is outstanding in his field. He's a really down-to-earth guy
, who tends to the Arbuckle farm with the help of his family (occasionally). Jon visits his parents often.
This really annoys Garfield, whose favorite farm activities are eating and then leaving.
First appearance: May 17, 1983
Jon's only brother, Doc Boy lives on the Arbuckle farm with his parents. Just like his
brother, Doc Boy leads a pretty boring life. But at least he only has to feed the pigs.
Jon has to feed Garfield.
Dr. Liz Wilson is Garfield's vet. She treats Garfield like a patient and Jon like he's an
idiot. Liz does occasionally date Jon, but the romance hasn't clicked, mostly because Jon
is affected with terminal geekitis.
First appearance: January 28, 1984
Though heaps of different posties have been seen in earlier Garfield comic strips, this particular
character has been the Arbuckle postman since 1984. He has completed his rounds
despite rain, snow, dark of night and maulings by one fat, ferocious cat, without fail.
